My Top Songs of February

No matter how hard I tried, I could not put these in order because they're all good ones !!

More times than often, it takes more than one listen to get me into a song, but wow. Halfway through this song, I was like who is this band, and why haven't I heard of them??? Thrilled To Be Here is such a solid album.

I feel like I say that all the small artists I listen to are my favorites, but the majority of them genuinely are. The Sunshine Woman EP contains some of my favorite Rand songs. Like A Dream is a lovely, bright song and a good collab as well. Their voices melt together telling different stories but both coming back to the same point of "feels like a dream to love".

The theme of "competition for the space" is reflected in the racing beat & the tension of it is released throughout the chorus like a breath of fresh air. Billie brings the earthy tone to the forefront in Garden of Eden in the lyrics and the music video. It's a beautiful, fresh, warm song, if the sun had a playlist, this would no doubt be on it. I'm very much looking forward to Flora Fauna out in May.

Tell me just one time

What I knew all along

I’m on your side

On your side

Long blue light

Do you ever fall in love with a song overnight? Like you go to sleep humming it, wake up with it on your mind that kind of thing? Long Blue Light is a song I cannot resist playing on repeat, as someone who despises doing that. Leif Vollebekk could honestly make a song with solely "mhm's" and it'd still be sooo good. Vollebekk continues his melancholic, evoking lyrics. The resonator guitar just reflecting his voice, ughhh.

I've played this song an excessive amount of times, and I'm now returning to my alt-rock phase... "I bet the future on an ice cream cone" is such a golden line that captures the pure toiling around within the song. It creates this vivid image of youthfulness, yet aligned with these strong, yearning emotions that all pack a nice punch.

I don't quite remember how I found Fenne Lily, but I fell in love with her album BREACH this month. A few of my favorites off of the album are Berlin, I, Nietzsche, and Birthday.

Out with her solo debut album, Return, Katy J Pearson has this 70s Americana/indie pop/electronic sound to her songs, matched with an amazingly unique voice. Pearson puts this spin on multiple genres all at once in just the best way. I get some Stevie Nicks vibes from her vocals & I'm so excited to see what more she has in the future.

Cassia creates yet another catchy song that'll be stuck in your head. The bass line that just follows throughout the song along with a nice little solo towards the end. Don't Make a Scene, along with their recent EP Powerlines, ought to have you bopping your head.... a lot.

{side note, I absolutely love their recent single/ep covers.}

During the last two months, I found myself going through some film/movie soundtracks, I find it amusing, I know songs from these movies, but I know I'll never watch them. Ether has to be one of my favorite deep finds. It's so balanced, yet it's not too upbeat, but it's not slow either, it quite frankly is ethereal.

I could truly just put both songs from their recent EP on here, Ruby Haunt is one of my favorite bands (duo) to listen to late at night/early morning, earbuds in, unwinding & no distractions. The cinematography is just a plus, it fits the targeted listening experience so well. I love the music video for Snow Angel equally despite the video quality being drastically different, but that's specifically what makes it for me. It produces this feeling that you've been there before/ it feels like you're there.

This song honestly goes for both February and January. It's a good mood booster & it gives you that extra push when needed.

Closing Time gets replaced, thank you Semisonic for your service o7.

Thank you for reading, hopefully you found a song to run off with!! (I'm sure you did...)
